Secure their future – a Last Will.
Responsible pet ownership includes planning for their future. It is vitally important to ensure you have someone who knows your animals and can look after their needs.
It is particularly important if you live alone to have a plan for your pets just in case something were to happen to you, and you can’t care for them yourself.
Have plans in place with a friend, family member, or other trusted person. Make sure they’ve spent time around your pets with you present.
Make sure you have a checklist of their special needs, such as a particular diet, medications, etc
If you don’t have anyone you know or trust in your area, check with your pet’s vet, groomers, search apps, ask neighbours, to see if there is a local service or someone that can come over and visit with you and your pet together.
Think about leaving instructions (and maybe finances) in your Will or last wishes.
Be wary of leaving your Estate/Trust to charitable organisations. Remember: They won’t be keeping your pets, just your money. If your pets are difficult to rehome due to ‘age or other special needs,’ they will more likely be euthanised.
Don’t just think ‘it will be all right someone will do it.’
Set your pets up for success!
Having a plan in place secures the future wellbeing of your animals should something happen to you.
